  1. Hair! Long and flowing, short and sleek, and everything in-between, this was the hot fashion trend of the late 1960s. You could change your look whenever you changed your outfit! Barbie® embraced this trend and made it uniquely her own, and we’re celebrating this iconic fashion era with the 50th Anniversary Barbie™ Hair Fair Doll Set. And for a limited time, you can only get her in our online shop! She’s the second of our tress-tastic hair play doll re-creations for 2017. Totally Hair™ 25th Anniversary Barbie® Doll arrived in the shop earlier this year, reminding you how a designer could dress Barbie® with Barbie® doll’s own hair. This time, we’re flashing back to a doll head where just one hairdo just wouldn’t do! She starts with a cute asymmetrical bob, inspired by the original blonde doll head from 1967. She also comes with a wig wardrobe that includes a flip braid, a “fall” hair piece, a “crownette” headband, and a brunette wig. Unlike the original set, though, this anniversary set also includes a body to go with the head! (The original set was just the head with wig wardrobe and hair-styling accessories.) Barbie® wears a bright “flower power” dress and chunky over-sized earrings. A matching bracelet and pumps complete her retro look. Styles may change, but one thing remains the same: Barbie® continues to inspire the endless possibilities of fashion. Don’t delay – get her here first, because for these first few weeks of her release, you can’t get her anywhere else! Which wig will you have Barbie® wear when you add 50th Anniversary Barbie™ Hair Fair Doll Set to your collection? Post your pictures in the comments!

  8. The first season of “ ” has been nothing but a-mazing! Although my Tuesdays will be a little less fab without new episodes to look forward to, I’m glad that a Genuine Ken has finally been selected! Throughout the show, eight Ken-testants competed in a series of elimination challenges to determine who would be deemed the “Genuine Ken.” Like my boyfriend Ken, they had to prove they have the qualities to be the ultimate boyfriend for every occasion. Good thing this doll wasn’t a judge, because just like I am with my shoes, I could not pick a favorite Ken-testant! After watching the entire season, it was no surprise Chris and Kurtis were the final Ken-testants. Both had qualities of Ken and definitely made an impression on this doll in each and every episode. Whether it was cooking, decorating or filming a PSA, Chris and Kurtis exhibited characteristics of a true Genuine Ken. In the end, Kurtis took home the title of “Genuine Ken,” even making this doll tear up at his ultimate romantic date. As his prize, Kurtis has received a modeling contract with Mattel, a one-of-a-kind doll made in his likeness, and, of course, the honor of being named the Great American Boyfriend! Congrats, doll! You deserve it. Dreamer Ken’s #1 fan, B.
  9. Wonder Woman™ is making another jump to the big screen - this time in a starring role! The first-ever live-action Wonder Woman movie arrives in theaters next month, but before then, Antiope™ and Hippolyta™are joining Wonder Woman in the Barbie™ Collection shop. To stay as true to the source as possible, each of the doll's faces were sculpted in the likenesses of the actors. The movie follows the adventures of Wonder Woman as she fights for peace and justice, and now you get to be part of the heroic scene when you add these dolls to your collection The costumes worn by the dolls are inspired by the costumes you’ll see them wear in the blockbuster movie debuting in June, as are their accessories. Wonder Woman™ arrives with her iconic lasso, sword, and shield; Antiope™ brandishes her bow and carries a quiver of arrows; and Hippolyta™ comes with her own sword and shield. And what action hero dolls could rightly be called “action” heroes if they weren’t articulated? So, naturally, Wonder Woman™, Hippolyta™, and Antiope™ are all fully articulated, allowing them to hold a variety of high-action poses. The debut of this first female-led super hero movie is an event you won’t want to miss. Take home a part of the action with the Wonder Woman™, Hippolyta™, and Antiope™ Dolls now in the online shop! 13. Barbie® debuted in 1959, but she didn’t move into her first Dream House until three years later, in 1962. And now, for the first time ever, Barbie® Signature has created a swell new reproduction of Barbie® Dream House®! “It was a challenging project – we’ve never produced a vintage structure before,” reveals Barbie® Signature Principal Designer Bill Greening. “Let alone one made mostly of cardboard. I learned a lot about the quality of cardboard on this one!” To create a vintage reproduction of any kind, Bill explains, they assemble a team to look at archive items and determine how to approach the project. “Luckily we had our packaging team and some help from the games and puzzles team to pull it off,” Bill says. They were only able to find one sample in their archives with the furniture still unassembled, but that was enough. They scanned the “sheets” with the furniture and sent them out for development. “We wanted to make sure the assembly of the furniture was all part of the fun, like the original,” Bill says. “I love the hi-fi/TV combo. It’s the 60s version of the entertainment center. I love the how the lid opens up and reveals a printed record player. I also love the flat cardboard printed pillows.” The reproduction of Barbie® Dream House® comes with an instruction booklet, and it also comes with a vintage repro doll and fashion, too! “It’s a vintage blonde ponytail Barbie, wearing a floral PAK sheath dress collectors know as ‘On the Go’ from that original Dream House era,” Bill notes. That makes the reproduction of the Dream House even more special, since the doll was sold separately back in the 1960s. With a plastic doll stand and hangers included too, this is a creation you can’t pass up. Let Barbie® welcome you to her 1962 Dream House, all over again! 15. 2019 is not just the 60th anniversary of Barbie® doll's debut. This year, the 20th series of Barbie® Fashion Model Collection dolls hits the runway, too! The year kicks off in fabulous fashion with the BFMC® Proudly Pink™ Barbie® Doll. Any time you reach a special anniversary year, it's the perfect time to look back at where you've been, and to look forward at a future filled with possibilities. The Barbie® Fashion Model Collection has played with that dichotomy for two decades, with Principal Designer Robert Best drawing on designs and styles that have stood the test of time and adding his own contemporary elements. The result? Fresh takes on haute couture you could see coming out of any real-world atelier or on display during any global Fashion Week extravaganza. We could talk about the Proudly Pink™ Barbie® Doll's outfit – and we will! – but we HAVE to talk about her hair first. She's bolder than ever in her signature color, taking the idea of "head-to-toe" to a new level. Her bubblegum pink up-do is the ultimate mix of stylishly chic and perfectly playful. It's been a winning combination for Barbie® over the years, and Robert has taken beyond anything else he's done before for this collection. Okay, now let's talk about her outfit. She's wearing a hot pink faille top and a logo print skirt, with pink gloves and pink stretch stiletto boots. A pale pink logo print purse dangles from her delicate shoulder on a silvery chain. The rhinestone Barbie® logo brooch serves as the topper to this daring look. It's self-referential and reverential at the same time, another inventive touch by Robert for this look. The design also features a gorgeous vintage face sculpt, and the fashion is made for the posable Silkstone® body. A doll stand and Certificate of Authenticity are included, of course, but you'll have to open the specially designed package to get at them. Whether you do that, or you prefer your dolls never removed from the box, you'll fall in love with the first BFMC® doll for 2019. Get your Proudly Pink™ Barbie® Doll today! Production dolls may vary from the images shown.

Celebrate 10 Years of Fashion Fabulous

“From the start, this collection has always represented how Barbie® doll is transformed by the power of fashion – whether the subject is a 40s siren singing in a cabaret or a model on the streets of Paris.” – Robert Best Just 10 short years ago, Mattel designer Robert Best conceived a BIG idea. Inspired by the great fashion houses of the world, Robert wanted to create a line of dolls using fine fabrics, classic lines, and feminine details with a touch of whimsy. He also wanted to combine the best of 2 worlds -- a vintage Barbie® face from the late 50’s and early 60’s with a modern, high fashion look. And so he set to work bringing his vision to life. The results? A Collection that’s caused Oohs! and Ahhs! since its bebut in 2000. Signature attributes of the collection include using a brand new body sculpt called Silkstone® that resembles the look and weight of porcelain, and featuring delicate facial features and elegantly posed bodies. Let’s not forget about the fashion. Oh, the fashion! With each new fashion that graces a doll in this collection, Robert celebrates the essence of haute couture with intricately crafted and beautifully tailored clothing, richly designed jewelry and highly detailed accessories. Fashion Model Beginnings… Whenever creating a new doll, Robert drafts a rough concept sketch, drawing inspiration from fashion, film, and life experience. With a team of sample makers, he begins drawing up patterns to create a physical sample. Based off the conceptualized sketch, Robert identifies the appropriate fabrics and works with a team of visual designers to create specialized prints in doll scale. In tandem, the visual designers translate the accessories from Robert’s sketch into 3D models. Next, Robert and his team of sample makers create a muslin to test the fit of the garment, using substitute fabrics before cutting the intended fabric. Once the correct fit and style lines have been identified, the team will create a doll prototype wearing the final fabric with accessories added. That Personal Touch… As the designer, Robert is responsible for the look of the doll from head to toe. He works closely with doll artists to identify and execute the best hair style and face paint to complement the ensemble. When the final prototype is established, Robert will share every development detail with the production team. From here, expert sewers hand make each garment before dressing the doll. Each doll’s hair is groomed and styled by hand while every package is hand folded with tissue paper neatly applied, ready for you to enjoy!

  23. Barbie® Wonder Woman™ (shop now) and Barbie® Mera™ (shop now) Dolls have arrived to save the planet! Two members of the unprecedented league of heroes in the upcoming live-action feature film Justice League™, these powerful heroes are bringing blockbuster-level thrills to Barbie® Signature. “It’s so exciting to have such strong female super hero characters in one DC film,” says Barbie® Signature Principal Designer Bill Greening, who helped get these dolls ready for battle. As with previous DC characters created for Barbie® Signature, they feature fully-articulated bodies for high-action poses. Wonder Woman™ is a familiar face for fans and Barbie® Signature collectors, in more ways than one. Not only does she have global recognition and acclaim, she’s also had dolls made in connection with her appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice™ and the star turn in her own Wonder Woman™ movie. For the new Barbie® Wonder Woman™ Doll (shop now), Greening combined the best of both worlds. “The doll body is like the one made for the Wonder Woman™ movie, with a more athletic build to her arms and legs. Because the new Justice League™ movie is set in the present day, her costume and accessories are inspired by what you’ll see in that movie.” Joining Barbie® Wonder Woman™ Doll (shop now) for the first time at Barbie® Signature is Barbie® Mera™ Doll (shop now), the Queen of Atlantis. “Mera is such a great character. I loved following her history in the DC comic books,” Greening says. “I’m excited to see a resurgence in her popularity in recent years, and I was thrilled see her included in Justice League™. Getting the costume, accessories, and facial sculpt just right is incredibly important, and Greening was up to the challenge. “The costume consists of a printed body suit that mimics her fish scale armor,” Greening explains. “Then we identified key pieces in the body armor to sculpt and paint to bring the costume to life.” With Justice League™ debuting worldwide later this year, Greening hopes the Barbie® Wonder Woman™ Doll (shop now) and Barbie® Mera™ Doll (shop now) will entertain a huge audience of their own. “I think the dolls have appeal to doll collectors, action figure collectors, and comic book fans, too,” he says. But you don’t have to wait until the movie comes out to get them – they’re available in the Barbie® Signature online shop right now! Barbie® Rules the Universe!

Pop divas landing on red carpets in alien “egg-ships” or hurtling through space in fiery comets?! It must be back-to-the-future on planet Earth because even Barbie® is turning to sci-fi for fashion inspiration! As Goddess of the Galaxy, she’s a space-travelling astral-femme in silver bustier and sparkling net! When it comes to space-age couture, Barbie® had her sights on Venus long before 2009’s Star Trek dolls, when the supermodel donned 1965’s Miss Astronaut. Space travel was a perfect excuse for fashion exploration, and Barbie® doll’s design team continued to create futuristic fare well into the 1980s, a period that saw a peak in sci-fi blockbusters like ET, Blade Runner and The Empire Strikes Back. In 1986, under the Astro-fashions banner, eight ingenious costumes debuted with catchy names like Space Racer, Galaxy A-Go-Go and Welcome to Venus. The Astro line was an instant sensation, filling a void in the doll market for innovative futuristic design. The appetite for space-oriented fare was whetted a year later when Barbie® fans met Spectra, Tom Comet and their pals—dolls that virtually landed on store shelves direct from outta space! The Spectra line of dolls featured extraterrestrial features that surprised Barbie® collectors, begging the questions, “who, what and where?!” The alien teens hailed from Shimmeron and sported clear, tinted plastic bodies and ultra-stylized makeup—perhaps too radical for the period. Revolutionary in their own way, the dolls and fashions are still highly collectible over 20 years after their introduction. Spectra was a retro-fabulous space fantasy similar in concept to today’s sophisticated Goddess of the Galaxy. Both are idealized visions of a fashion-conscious diva ready to rule the universe!
