The Gala's Best™ Barbie® Is a Fitting BFMC® Finale!

By Allen Voivod

The Gala’s Best™ Barbie® Doll is a Platinum Label® Doll that will retail for $175 in the online shop. On 8/10 Barbie® Signature Platinum and Gold Status members will have first access to add her to their collections, followed and then the general public on 8/12. At launch, there will be a limit of one (1) doll per person. (This limit is subject to change at a later date.) Celebrate 20 years of the Barbie® Fashion Model Collection with us, and this capstone doll from the designer for whom Barbie® doll has been a muse for decades.

From the advent of the collection in 2000, the BFMC® has always embodied the glamour, the sophistication, the timeless elegance of fashion. Often featuring must-have items for the well-dressed woman's wardrobe, this haute couture series has long focused on bringing contemporary twists on classic designs.

In the case of The Gala’s Best™ Barbie® Doll , Senior Director of Barbie® Design Robert Best completes the collection at the top of his game, giving us Barbie® in a Dresden blue gown with a strapless corset bodice, full layered tulle skirt, and dainty pink organza flowers accents. A matching blue organza petticoat with taffeta ruffled trim billows beneath the gown, ensuring that all eyes will be on Barbie® the moment she walks in the room.

Hair, makeup, and accessories have always been just as important to the presentation of a Barbie® Fashion Model Collection doll, and Robert and the team collaborating with him for this swan song creation rose to the occasion. Her dramatic up-do hairstyle frames her face and highlights her golden, pearl-drop earrings. Long, elegant white gloves complete a breathtaking look that is sure to be captured in the minds of BFMC® fans for years to come. She’s a fitting finale – get her in the online shop as quickly as you can!

I hope there will be enough for the gold members since The Best Look doll supply barely covered the platinum members.

Hopefully the quality on this doll is better than the last two i got. I'll probably wait and see what the reviews say...

I love the look, but $175 seems like a price I expect to find on eBay 5-10 years down the road. That said, I will buy one as soon as it goes on sale.

She is very pretty, I am hopeful. Obviously since she is the last one of the collection I will be purchasing her. Wondering about her shoes?

Is it articulated?  Or the beautiful original Classic?

Edited by STRIKELINE
I can see by the posing it is an articulated style

Can’t wait to see her tomorrow! I’m sure she’ll look spectacular with the rest of my beloved BFMC. I have always found Robert Best a truly talented designer who enjoys making Barbie look magnificent, at all times. Farewell, Mr. Best, you will be missed by many.!

I hate to say this, but this doll does not inspire me to pay $175.00. Not at all.  I think I will pass. To me the doll looks like a Hallmark charm figurine reproduction of a Silkstone Barbie.  And the hair looks too much like 1970s hillbilly fancy prom chic or something else Dolly Parton could pull off in 1975. Please do not get me started on the dress. Scarlet O'Hara's used the curtains from Tara and managed to created a more sophisticated gown.  Usually I LOVE Robert Best designs, but this one seems to have worked better on the drawing board than in the actual production.  Sometimes less is more. This Silkstone Barbie could definitely have used less.

I thought the same thing, a Hallmark figure. The bodice looks like denim. I think the earrings would look better with a silver base and pearls, not gold. I don't see red flowers with a blue dress, They should be white to match the gloves. I guess I'm not a fashion designer.

Her face IS really beautiful though. Best wishes to the buyers.
