See the Winning Sketches for the 2020 Barbie® Signature Doll Design Showdown!

By Allen Voivod

It was an exciting week of voting, and all four doll design concepts acquitted themselves admirably. But only two could advance to the prototype phase of the 2020 Barbie® Signature Doll Design Showdown. Are you ready for the reveal?

Design Concept #3:

Now that you've selected two designs, here's what happens next. A couple of months from now, Phase 2 voting will begin. You’ll be presented with a prototype version of each of these designs, and you’ll get to vote on which one you prefer. (Why the wait between voting phases, you may ask? Because it takes time to create – by hand! – the physical prototypes of the dolls and the fashions they wear. We want to make sure you see the best possible version of each one when it's time to vote again.)

Please note: Voting will be open to all Barbie® fans, who may vote only once per voting phase. But only Barbie® Signature Platinum and Gold Status members will be able to purchase the final doll. (Not a member yet? Learn more and join now!)

Want more details? Read the sections below titled What Is the Doll Design Showdown? and How to Vote for in the Doll Design Showdown for more details, then vote today! And keep an eye on your email to see which designs move on to the prototype phase. (Make sure you're getting our emails by checking your email preferences. What Is the Doll Design Showdown?

Barbie® Signature will manufacture and offer the Doll Design Showdown winning doll, chosen from pre-selected designs and prototypes by Barbie® fans. Anyone can participate, but we will only offer this doll for sale to Barbie® Signature Platinum and Gold Status members.

We will conduct two polls, each lasting one week, in which anyone may vote for their preference of the offered choices. You may vote only once per poll. Be sure to vote before each poll closes!

When the final round of voting has been concluded, the winning choices will be used to manufacture the doll. Placing your votes is NOT a commitment to purchase the resulting doll, and voting in the polls is not required to purchase the resulting doll (but you must be a Barbie® Signature Platinum or Gold Status member to purchase the doll).

At a later date, we will offer the winning Doll Design Showdown doll to Barbie® Signature Platinum and Gold Status members. Orders will be taken for approximately 4 weeks, and we will produce enough quantities to match the number of orders we receive – every Platinum and Gold Status members will have the opportunity to order and receive one. This means the item is made-to-order; made-to-order items may not reach you for approximately one (1) year after placing your order. Further details will be available when the doll is offered.

Additionally, a minimum of 1500 pre-orders are required for the winning doll to go into production. If the minimum pre-order threshold is not met, the doll will not go into production, and all pre-orders will be refunded.

How to Vote in the Doll Design Showdown

1. Review the calendar above to see when voting opens and closes for the two phases.

2. Membership is not required to vote. Simply click the “Vote Now” link above to be taken to the survey.

3. On the survey page, read the instructions, then place your vote. NOTE: You can only vote once per phase, and once cast, your vote cannot be changed – so consider carefully before placing your vote!

4. Check in at Barbie® Signature after the polling phases end to see how the voting turned out, and don’t miss your chance to be a part of a new Barbie® creation!

Please note: The dolls, fashions, and accessories depicted in the above images are design concepts. Final production design, colors, and textures may vary slightly.

Pretty designs, but a bit disappointed. I was hoping for the Blue or even the curvy one. Well let see how the prototypes look. Hoping for the best!

Pretty much what I guessed. A blonde mermaid, what a surprise!

If curvy had not looked like she was wearing a dress, she might have had a chance.

Ken will need to look a lot more rugged to stand a chance. Right now he looks like he's going to a costume party.

I agree with all the comments. Blue was my choice, but the curvy was pretty, too.

I also liked the blue and the curvy mermaids. Maybe they could at least add streaks of different colors to the blonde's hair?

The blonde is fine, though may not purchase...I was hoping for the Blue one, but especially wondering 'Where's the Redhead?!!!'  I think you may loose your *ss with the Ken - make it rare with less production and you may be fine.

Being a redhead, I was kinda hoping for a redhead as well. But yeah, I wanted the blue one!

I guess the majority of voters liked the blonde Signature Barbie.  Ken needs to look a little more rugged but glad Ken was chosen too.

I don’t think I was asked to participate in that particular poll, but I have to agree that there are way too many blonde Barbies.  Mattel really needs to get over the color pink, too.  SHEESH.

Indeed - I thought the Ken one was female until I saw the abs, and the bare chest.

I know the blonde is stereotypical, but I preferred her overall look over the others.  I looked at what they were wearing instead of the hair.

I voted for blue as well. I already have many blonde mermaids in white or pink. Bummer!

Why have people who can’t buy vote? Or are they hoping they will sign up once they vote?

I would say 'yes' to that.

Not a surprise..another blonde barbie. Disappointed. I wish Barbie would keep diversity and inclusion as a focused. The curvy or the man would have been my vote. But when not enough people vote you get what you don't want as representation.

Disappointed! Voted for the blue design.

We have enough blonde dolls! Overall did not care for the merman.

The blue one was unique and different. We don't have a AA mermaid in the signature line and she looked magical and detailed. Is a pity. The Ken is not my favorite, I think I will vote for the blond, but she is very traditional... anyway, we have to see the prptotype dolls. I hope the look of the Ken is better in person, because he looks a little female in the sketch.

I agree that the Merman Ken needs to look better in person (more masculine) and the blonde is stereotypical and traditional as with past mermaid Barbies. Why do we have to choose? Mattel, why not include both dolls in a gift set which has never been done before? Perhaps presented in a contrasting position like yin and yang in a unique packaging of a seashell.
