Barbie® Inspiring Women™ Series Continues With Three New Role Models!

 By Allen Voivod

The Barbie® Inspiring Women™ Series pays tribute to incredible heroines of their time – courageous women who took risks, changed rules and paved the way for generations of girls to dream bigger than ever before. Today, we're excited to welcome three new role models into this remarkable series!

It was a chance opportunity to perform at the famous Apollo Theater that catapulted Ella Fitzgerald into stardom, to become one of the most popular and beloved jazz singers in the world. Ella would become the most recorded female in history and earned countless prestigious awards. Throughout her career, Ella lent her voice to people in need and her foundation, The Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation, provides aid to children and communities by fostering a love of music and reading. Our Ella Fitzgerald Doll shines in a performance-ready look, a deep-purple gown with plenty of shimmer.

In 1961, tennis pro Billie Jean King won her first major championship title, followed by a series of spectacular victories throughout her career. Off the court, she tirelessly championed women’s equality in sports. In 1973, during a globally televised match hailed as the "Battle of the Sexes," she defeated a formidable male rival and proved a woman’s place was hers to decide. Our Billie Jean King Doll wears a two-tone blue and mint-green tennis dress, inspired by what she wore during that legendary match.

Florence Nightingale pursued a career in nursing, a vocation she believed was her moral duty. Enrolling as a nursing student in 1850, she made it her mission to improve hospital efficiency and standards in patient care, eventually writing books that launched reforms in medicine. In 1860, she established the Nightingale Training School, continuing to further nursing education while changing the negative attitudes towards women entering the field. Our Florence Nightingale Doll arrives in a re-creation of the nineteenth-century uniform worn by nurses tending to gravely wounded soldiers during the Crimean War.

All three dolls representing these groundbreaking role models are fully articulated and come with specifically themed accessories, a doll stand, and a Certificate of Authenticity. More importantly, we need more role models like these, because imagining you can be anything is just the beginning. Actually seeing that you can makes all the difference!
